What Does Domain Authority Mean?

Contrary to what you may be thinking , domain authority was not developed by Google. Instead, this is a term and ranking factor that was developed by Moz. Moz, is one of the leading companies when it comes to helping with the search engine rankings for people and is a great product to use for research, but it can be pricey at times. However, this is a term that was coined by Moz and it is definitely one that you are going to want to know what all it includes.

  • This is a score that Moz has put together to help you figure out how your website may rank in the search engine results.
  • You will find that the score is going to be composed of several different factors and each of those is going to make a difference in how well the website is going to rank. So you will want to learn about how is domain authority calculated and what kind of factors are going to be seen in the ranking and score.

How Is Domain Authority Calculated?

While Moz has not come out with the complete formula for a good reason, it is well known that several factors are going to be used in figuring out the score. The commonly known factors are going to be a couple that are going to really be more of the older school type of ranking and that is something that still holds true with the newer changes the search engines have made.

The first factor that you will want to know about is the number of links that are coming from a root domain. This is going to mean that you will be getting the credit for only a single link at a time from each domain. So this means you will want to try to build up a diverse link profile to get more credit back to your website.

The next factor that you will find is going to be the factors that are going to come from the links you have coming overall. These links will make a difference for your website and will include multiple links from a single website. These are the two main factors that are coming into the domain authority and how it is going to be ranking for your website.

What Is My Domain Authority?

This is going to be something that you will want to figure out. When you are looking at this, you will want to make sure you look at several different websites as they will generally be using the formula to figure out your ranking. This will help you in knowing how much authority your website carries. This will allow you to know more about the changes you need to make, but also let you have a better idea of how your website is going to look in the eyes of the search engines.

What you will find is you will want to know about a key difference when you are looking at your domain authority. That is going to be the terms of page authority and domain authority. Some people have a tendency to use these terms interchangeably, but they are not interchangeable and will make a difference in how you are going to view your website or pages.

What is The Difference Between Domain Authority and Page Authority

This is going to be a factor that you need to learn about as well. That is because some companies will teach you these are the same exact terms. However, they are different and it will make a difference in how you are going to view your site and pages. Since this is the case, we are going to cover some of the difference between these two terms as well. With that being the case, it is time to cover these two terms so you can learn more about them.

  • Domain authority is one of the terms that you will find is going to talk about the root domain. This means if your website is mysite.com you will get a domain authority that is going to be based on the factors that re noted above for the domain authority for the root domain.
  • Page authority is going to refer to the pages that are published on the website. For example, the page authority would be for a something like this: mysite.com/mygreatpage. The page authority would be going to the page that is on the root domain. The page authority will have several factors from the same point of view as the domain authority, but it will have the domain authority being factored into the rankings as well. What is really interesting is sometimes the page authority can out rank the domain authority, but that can come from the  links and other information that is involved with the page being interesting for the people to link back to in the form of a deep link.
